Man cycles from Sheffield to Scotland in three days to raise money for Dementia UK

Two friends are planning to cycle 195 miles from Worksop to Ecclefechan in Scotland to raise money for charity.

Mark Gebbie, 53, is raising money in aid of Dementia UK as his aunt, who lives in Scotland had it for a number of years and he said his parents are now showing signs of dementia.

Mr Gebbie was originally going to take on the challenge last year but found he was not in the best shape to do so, but after losing three stone he now feels ready to take on the challenge in April.

He said: “I aimed to raise £1,000 first of all and currently I have raised over £750 so I am hoping to get more awareness for this.”

Mark is completing this challenge with his friend, Glen Cutts who is a keen cyclist.

The two men will set off from Worksop on April 16 and aim to arrive at Ecclefechan by 2pm on 18 April.

Originally, the pair wanted to do this challenge across five days and it was not until Tuesday this week that they decided to do it in three days instead.

Mr Gebbie started his training for this challenge in the middle of February and has trained as much as he can while also trying to run a business.

Despite the challenges of tough terrain, Mr Gebbie is determined to complete this challenge.

He said: “It is important to help a great charity that is already working for my family up until now and I want to earn a lot of money for this.

“All the preparations are in place, all we need now is a lot of bike time.”

Friends, family and supporters of the two men are expected to be waiting for them at the finish line in Ecclefechan to congratulate them on their achievement.
