Staff at the University of Sheffield have begun industrial action after the Vice Chancellor Koen Lamberts announced plans to cut staffing costs by £23 million over the next two years.
The proposals mean that over 1,000 jobs are at risk and around 50 members of staff could be forced into redundancy.
Simultaneously, the Vice Chancellor and University Executive Board have declined a UCU request to cap their salaries and forgo further bonuses.
Students were also recently balloted over their support for the strikes, with over 83% of respondents voting in favour of them. 89% of respondents also expressed no confidence in the University Executive Board.
Staff campaigned outside University buildings and came together to rally at midday on April 30.
