Raging Flat Fire above West Street’s Tiger Works

A huge fire was seen burning from within a flat above popular Sheffield bar, Tiger Works, at approximately 2am yesterday.

The blaze, affecting the top floor of the property, was quickly tackled by South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue services, climbing to the roof via the property’s balcony and supported by multiple police cars restricting West Street and redirecting traffic.

The area in front of the property was blocked off from the public, causing immediate diversions for traffic and delays to the tram service. There were no casualties but severe internal property damage was caused.

The management of Tiger Works released an announcement on social media detailing that they had been advised by emergency services not to open the bar to customers on Thursday night due to the ongoing work of Fire & Rescue.

In the same post, Tiger Works ensured that they would be open as usual for the upcoming bank holiday weekend, when foot traffic in Sheffield City Centre is expected to be at it’s highest due to the improved weather and heat.

The property in which the fire took place neighbours a huge area of private student flats, namely the long established Hutton’s Buildings, but these properties were unaffected by the incident.
