Swings and Roundabouts: the gig set to raise money for Sheffield’s most vulnerable

Several of the biggest names in Sheffield’s music scene are coming together to raise money for Roundabout Youth Homeless Charity at Factory Floor Bar on 24th May.

Lucy Lee, the organiser, was inspired to create this fundraiser after the positive impact similar charities had on her life when she was homeless at the age of 17.

Miss Lee said: ““Looking after our most vulnerable allows us all to thrive together. It’s about creating a home for everyone in the community and bringing people together for a good cause.

The event, named Swings and Roundabouts Jazz, proposes a varied evening of jazz, reggae, funk, and ska.

The lineup includes well known Sheffield promoters and artists such as Kiziah and the Kings, Footprintz Jazz Collective, Nonna Fab (Apricot Ballroom/Footprints Jazz Club) and Peter Rabbit (Funky Drummer/Bass Off).

Kiziah Watson, lead singer/songwriter of Kiziah and the Kings, said: “I write music because my heart says I have to, and this kind of ethos is what I stand for.

“One love, peace, and unity. That’s our message.”

All profits from ticket sales will go to Roundabout, and Factory Floor have additionally pledged 10% of the bar revenue on the night to the charity.

Roundabout Youth Homeless Charity supports over 380 young people aged 16-25 every day, providing ‘emergency accommodation, long-term housing, education, and life skills programs’ (Ben Keegan, Roundabout CEO).

Lucy Fantom, community fundraiser for Roundabout, said: “Swings and Roundabouts is shaping up to be an unforgettable night of music and community.

“Events like this show the real power of coming together to make a lasting difference.”

Labelled unanimously as a ‘Sheffield supporting Sheffield’ event, giving back to the local community is clearly the core motivation of the night.

Mrs Watson said: “The Sheffield music scene has this real buzz for different cultural music, which embraces all of us together.”

Doors will open at 7pm and tickets can be purchased on Resident Advisor.
