Hillsborough’s Green party have announced that a litter pick will happen this Saturday.
The litter pick starts at 10:30am, meeting at Hillsborough corner near to where Langsett Road crosses the river.
Ward organiser for the Hillsborough Green Party Eamonn Ward said: “It’s here because not a lot of people live close to the road, you need people there to keep the road clean.”
Littering has long been an issue in the area, with many complaining about the amount left on the side of the road.
Families are welcome to attend so long as children are accompanied with adult supervision. The organisers have asked attendees to wear gloves and appropriate clothing. Litter pickers will be provided at the event.
Litter picks are regularly held on the second Saturday of every month in Hillsborough by a community group of litter pickers in S6 and have been for the past four years.
More than two million pieces of litter are dropped in the UK daily and half a million pieces of litter enter oceans from UK rivers each year. Littering can have a detrimental effect on the environment and is an eyesore.
