The Co-op’s Musical Freezers Make Headlines

Musical freezers in Sheffield have made national headlines this week after Co-op customers took to social media to share the soothing sound.

Located in the Ecclesall Road store, the freezer, which has been compared on social media to Sinéad O Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U,’ and played over Coldplay’s “Clocks,” on BBC Radio 1, has been widely accepted to play a C# Major chord.

Luke Wild, 38, whose recording of the freezers has now been used by The Mirror and MusicRadar amongst others said: “It’s very soothing, ASMR-inducing. It genuinely sounds really nice.”

Mr. Wild added: “ Different outlets are posting articles, the BBC and everything. I’ve been back there and there are just people hanging around them. I find it hilarious.”

Another Redditor said: “I guess I need to make a journey because I have been stressed lately. Screw meditation, co op freezers is where it’s at.”

Whilst the freezers have garnered a lot of online praise- described as “Heavenly,” “Like the string section of an orchestra,” and “Fucking beautiful,” others are calling “Slow news day.”

One Redditor said: “I thought my life was dull now I’m an overachiever.”

However, this has not discouraged some netizens, who have been sampling and remixing the freezers.

One Redditor posted: “I’m actually rendering a 10 hour video of this. I’ve cleaned the beeps…and some loud stepping sounds. Will post it soon enough!”

On sampling the freezers with his friend Mr. Wild said: “We’re not sure on genre, I think we might make a couple of different tunes, put a little EP out.”

A Co-op spokesperson said: “Whilst we’re unable to confirm whether the freezers are rehearsing for their next orchestral recital, it’s good to hear our shoppers are enjoying the freezer section at Ecclesall Road Co-op.”
