Drivers Concern as Icy Conditions Take Over Sheffield

Drivers in Sheffield have called for better weather warnings on roads.

After a extended period of artic weather in January, road users have reported a number of incidents and crashes which have taken place.

On Thursday, February 19 a car crashed and was abandoned in Upper Burbage. This incident raised concerns among many in the community, including a witness of the wreckage- a 35 year old from Greystones- who said: “When I drove up, I had zero clue of the snowy conditions, as the bottom of Ringinglow road was absolutely normal”.

He added: “I think timely gritting of key routes, especially on rural and elevated roads, is important. Clear communication about road conditions would also help drivers make informed decisions.”

The icy conditions have since brought on an increase in potholes around Sheffield, another key concern of Sheffield road users. Many road users have taken to social media to vent their frustrations on this topic, with Facebook user Jeanne Kemp writing: “I have been in Sheffield and there is far too many pot holes, some are dangerous. What is the council doing about them especially Batemoor?”.
