‘Relentless’ potholes causing chaos to South Yorkshire drivers

Pot holes across Sheffield and South Yorkshire are causing misery to commuters.

Reports suggested that some potholes have popped tires and caused bent wheels, some potholes are said to be causing the same amount of damage as hitting the curb at 40 miles per hour

Jill Warttig, who lives and uses country roads daily, said that the roads are currently in bad condition and usually resurfaced every several years, but recently multiple companies over a few months have come and closed the road and dug it up again and again, leaving the road surface uneven and creating dips in the road that aren’t level with the road itself.

Mrs Warttig said: “The roads are narrow and it makes it difficult to get passed the contractors equipment, the rollers and the large trucks,”

Lisa Bradley, who damaged her car on a road driving through a pothole, said that she was driving through Stocksbridge and hit a pothole and popped her tire, costing her almost £300 in repairs.

The Sheffield council’s website has said they deal with Primary Roads, such as A Roads, like the A61, and secondary roads, they check these roads monthly, link roads are checked quarterly and local roads, including country roads and side roads, are checked annually.

Sheffield council says they will fill in a pothole temporarily to make it safe, saying they aim to do this within 24 hours of a report. They continue and say that if the pothole requires a larger repair, they will have their highway inspectors and they will mark it and will make a permanent repair, they say they hope to make a full repair within 28 days of marking the pothole, though they will prioritise hazardous potholes.
