Millhouses vet staff to run Sheffield Half Marathon to raise money for charity

Staff from a Millhouses veterinary practice are set to run the Sheffield Half Marathon to raise money for charity this March.

Catherine Farmery, 40, a receptionist at Park Veterinary Hospital and Katie Limb, 45, a vet, will be raising money for St Lukes Hospice and Sheffield Children’s Hospital. They are each aiming to raise £1000 for their chosen charity.

Miss Farmery is running for St Luke’s Hospice, a charity that cares for terminally ill adults.

She said: “I just think they’re an incredible charity who help so many people and their families and I just think any one of us could be in that position one day.”

St Luke’s cared for Miss Farmery’s uncle when he was ill and a friend’s mother who suffered from motor neurone disease.

Miss Limb will run for Sheffield Children’s Hospital who cared for her daughter who broke her arm.

Miss Farmery said: “That’s a really good charity as well so any donations for Katie would be appreciated.”

Despite having run the Percy Pud 10K together last December this will be the longest run the pair have committed to.

They have been training weekly with personal trainer Joe Patterson from Passion To Progress.

Miss Farmery said: “As it comes closer I’m getting more nervous,

“I know the support is going to be incredible and that will really get me going. It will really make me emotional but I’m excited, I think the adrenaline will take over and I’ll just power through.”

Friends and family will be coming out to support them on the day.

Miss Farmery said: “I’m definitely going to smash the target.

“The group that we work for will put a percentage of whatever we raise towards that as well so that’s really good.”

She spoke about her experience with St Luke’s Hospice.

Miss Farmery said:”The care and compassion that everybody receives, including family members, is second to none and they are an absolute credit to the city.”

The marathon is set to take place on March 29th.

A spokesperson for St Luke’s Hospice said: “We are extremely grateful to Catherine for her support and she has already raised an incredible amount of money which really will make a huge difference.”
