After months of preparation, The University of Sheffield dance society held its highly anticipated dance competition on Saturday  

The competition hosts dance societies from across the country where dancers can compete in 15 different categories with intermediate and advanced levels of different styles including Jazz, Ballet, Tap and many more. 

The event was held at The University of Sheffield Octagon Centre in which spectators could come and support the dancers and was also live streamed on YouTube by Forge Television.

Katie Pinder, 19, a dancer from Sheffield’s advanced jazz and contemporary teams, said “This is the thing that we all look forward to the most throughout the year. I feel like there’s nothing like competing the dances you’ve worked so hard to perfect on home turf.”

Dancers competed in front of a judging panel of industry professionals and experts which this year included choreographer and dancer Hannah Cleeve, BGT and AGT finalist and actress Julia Carlile, Principle Ballerina and actress Natascha Mair and West End’s James Worthington. 

It was a particularly good year for team Sheffield who managed to secure five trophies with the advanced contemporary team gaining first place and best costume for the second time this season.

Briar Swift, 19, who competed in Sheffield’s advanced contemporary, said that the win was “the best outcome we could’ve asked for today, especially at our home comp.”

Sheffield’s competition secretaries Bella Pratt and Kate Nicholls took to Instagram on Sunday to conclude and said “Thank you for the most amazing day yesterday we hope you all enjoyed. And a special Thank you to our amazing judges, we absolutely loved having you join us. Comp secs over and out.”
