New opportunity to give views on green belt housing plans for Lodge Moor

Changes to controversial plans to allow 258 homes on green belt land in Lodge Moor have gone on display – and people are being invited to have their say.

The proposals would lead to the creation of homes around the Lodge Moor Road and Redmires area, and council officials say it would provide better housing and more employment opportunities for residents.

Coun Sue Alston, a Liberal Democrat representing Fulwood, said: “This week there is the consultation of the proposed changes recommended by the inspectors.

“We alerted residents on the Lodge Moor area that this was coming, should they wish to comment further on the inclusion of this site in the Local Plan.”

Coun Alston also clarified some points about the plan on social media.

She said: “Once the local plan is in force it makes it easier for developers to obtain planning permission to build on the sites and that plans have not started yet.”

Coun Cliff Woodcraft, another Liberal Democrat for Fulwood, said: “The examiners have proposed some modifications. These are to be posted online and in three libraries.

“I gather they are quite minor, some correcting mistakes, but do provide an opportunity to further comment from the public.”

These development proposals are for green belt land and residents have voiced differing opinions on whether they think they should take place.

One citizen, who lives in Lodge Moor Road and wished to stay anonymous, said: “I am against it because it is built on green belt and there are a lot of brown belt areas they can build on.”

Mel Zeki, who also resides in Lodge Moor Road, said on Facebook: “I grew up in Lodge Moor and this place is important to preserve.”

However, Was Khan, a bus driver, said: “I think it’s good. There are so many people coming in that we need more places. Especially for students because it is a nice place.”

The Local Plan is a blueprint for how Sheffield will develop and where housing can take place over the coming years.
