A Sheffield student is hiking the worlds tallest free-standing mountain to raise money for people in Kenya who do not have access to clean water.
Jemima Treasure-Evans, 21 originally from Hereford is climbing Mount Kilimanjaro this August to raise money for Dig Deep, a charity that works in Bomet county.
Jemima must raise just under £3,000 and has already fundraised £1,121 by doing some bake sales in her local climbing centre.
She said: “I am super excited. I have never done anything like this before.
“ I am slightly nervous about the altitude but I am sure it will be fine”
“In this county, water is not very accessible and hygiene education which poorly affects women, if they get their period, it is really difficult for them without clean water and sanitations.”

Jemima is one of 695 people across the UK taking part in the challenge this year, to raise a total of £750,000 for the award-winning charity.
Samuel Abbs is fundraising officer for Dig Deep and said: “Working for the charity has given me the privilege of visiting these projects first-hand.
“I can say truthfully, from the bottom of my heart, that the gratitude and love these communities hold for the way Dig Deep and the amazing fundraisers have changed their lives through clean water and safe sanitation access is immeasurable.
“I believed in the mission when I first fundraised, but now it has become a part of the story I want to help write for years to come.”
The hike takes place over six days through diverse landscapes and ecological zones, a journey to 5,895 metres to watch the sunrise from the roof of Africa.

Former Sheffield student Holly Mcgarva took part in the expedition back in 2024 and said: “It is the greatest challenge to push yourself physically and mentally and really puts your life back into perspective.
“People should donate to this amazing charity because they give back to the people in the local area.
“From visiting the area, you get to see where your money goes and how it truly helps people.”
