Students gathered at the University of Sheffield Students’ Union to raise awareness and rally support for the upcoming “March Together Against the Far Right” demonstration set to take place in London later this month.
The protest organised by the Together Alliance will take place on Saturday 28 March in central London.
It is expected that thousands of people from across the UK plan to attend, in a show of unity against racism, division, and far-right politics.
One student activist said: “We are protesting against the far right and against the wars in the Middle East.”
The march is being coordinated by multiple organisations, including groups such as Stand Up to Racism and Friends of the Earth.
The demonstration aims to reject far-right narratives, build solidarity across communities and show collective resistance to hate and division. The event will feature themed blocs, including a climate justice contingent.
The student added: “It involves a big protest and demonstration in London and then musical performances like one big rave afterwards.
“It’s great, because basically the far right f****** suck.”
The protest has drawn support from a wide range of public figures such as Lenny Henry, Paloma Faith, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Paul Weller, and Christopher Eccleston.
It is also supported by major organisations such as the Trade Union Congress and UNISON.
The SU has been key in encouraging participation at the protest.
Another student added: “The SU are even paying for our transport to London so we can attend.”
A strong student turnout from Sheffield is expected to join thousands in London for what organisers describe as a major national protest of unity.
