{"id":49185,"date":"2024-03-05T15:09:52","date_gmt":"2024-03-05T15:09:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/?p=49185"},"modified":"2024-03-05T15:09:52","modified_gmt":"2024-03-05T15:09:52","slug":"dancing-on-ice-star-unveils-cat-shelter-charity-shop-in-broomhill","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/03\/05\/dancing-on-ice-star-unveils-cat-shelter-charity-shop-in-broomhill\/","title":{"rendered":"Dancing On Ice star unveils Cat Shelter Charity shop in Broomhill"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Cats and kittens in need of care are being looked after by The Sheffield Cat Shelter, which has opened a new shop in Broomhill to raise funds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dancing on Ice star Frankie Seaman is a patron of the organisation and helped open the new Broomhill store by cutting the ribbon.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: \u201cWhen I first cut the ribbon there was a crowd outside the door, and once everyone was in we rang through our first purchase, it was very exciting\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She has fostered cats and kittens for 8 years and has a nursery in her house, where she looks after them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Seaman said: \u201cCats have been a huge part of my whole life, and the cat shelter is a wonderful place\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Sheffield Cat Shelter has been around for 127 years and fostered and cared for countless cats and kittens, alongside providing educational videos for cat welfare and wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Seaman said: \u201cWe&#8217;re really proud of the fact that we do try and educate the public, you know, in terms of cat ownership because everybody wants a cat, they see them on social media\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/03\/4ff698aa-8477-4264-a38f-958b098b5af1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49732\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">7 year old Joy, who was abandoned on the street in a cat carrier.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently they have a waiting list of 80 to 100 people looking for cats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Store Manager, Antonio Cruz said: \u201cWe are always fighting to make sure that we get those cats out to good homes and that we&#8217;re looking after them because there are lots of cats that come to us on a daily basis&#8221;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They are also striving to expand their mission towards saving cats, and evolving and adapting to inflation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Cruz said: \u201cWithin the stores, if we can make as much money as we can, then we could potentially get a bigger shelter in the future. Obviously we&#8217;re paying for the food, the vet bills, which are rising all the time&#8221;. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The main cat shelter is based in Broomhall, and alongside this new shop they have two others situated in Ecclesall Road and Hillsborough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new charity shop is now open at 7 Crookes Road, Broomhill, Sheffield S10 5BA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/02\/catshelter-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-49209\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>They are also looking for people with video editing experience to help with their educational videos campaign, about a recent law of microchipping.
