The Rose garden cafe, located in Graves Park, is set to be refurbished and reopened after community and charity group ‘Friends of Graves Park’ campaign for its restoration. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council’s charity trustee sub-committee has agreed to the plans of restoring the caf\u00e9 after its closure due to structural stability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Caroline Dewar, chair of the Friends of Graves Park said: ” The local community desperately want their cafe back and they want to retain this much loved building.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charity, founded 26 years ago, has declared a recent partnership between themselves, Sheffield City Council and Save the Rose Garden Cafe campaign to communicate ongoing plans and advocate for community concerns. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Liz Hnat, partnership member and Chair of Save the Rose Garden Cafe said; ” The partnership with the council does provide a relationship between the community and them. It means we are having open and challenging conversations but in a respectful way and making sure all sides are heard.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The park was gifted to the people of Sheffield and the Norton Area by JG Graves, giving the park great historical significance to the community and serves as a vital meeting place .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Miss Hnat added; ” Providing safe open spaces for our community to connect and share are integral to wellbeing, especially for marginalised or forgotten community members.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The charity has raised almost \u00a310,000 on just giving and commissioned an independent survey of the roof to save it from immediate demolition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rebecca Nixon, representative of Sheffield City Council in the partnership, said: “It has been a real process of co-creation within the partnership to bring methods of how we consult.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plans for the refurbishment of the cafe are currently underway with an extraordinary committee meeting on Thursday 21st March scheduled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
