{"id":49987,"date":"2024-03-06T17:33:34","date_gmt":"2024-03-06T17:33:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/?p=49987"},"modified":"2024-03-06T17:33:34","modified_gmt":"2024-03-06T17:33:34","slug":"sheffield-celebrates-annual-beer-week","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/03\/06\/sheffield-celebrates-annual-beer-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield celebrates annual beer week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Breweries across Sheffield are celebrating the city\u2019s tenth annual beer week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The annual event, which started in 2015, sees breweries and beer lovers from across the city indulge in newly crafted beers, and a series of events to celebrate Sheffield\u2019s beer culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Celebrations for Sheffield beer week began early this year, with tap takeovers at a number of Sheffield\u2019s most popular breweries and pubs beginning last Thursday and continuing over the weekend.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Riverside Pub, a vibrant pub located in Kelham Island, is running a pie week alongside tap takeovers of both Black Iris and Brew York to celebrate both Sheffield Beer Week and National Pie Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/03\/20240306_115308-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"Outside the Riverside pub in Kelham Island\" class=\"wp-image-50012\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Outside the Riverside pub<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Kieron Lake, assistant manager of Riverside, said: \u201cIt\u2019s always a reason to put something on, because we\u2019re getting people through the door that we don\u2019t necessarily normally get through the door.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr. Lake added: \u201cIt\u2019s just a bit of fun, you can go to places and they\u2019ll perhaps have a completely different range to what they\u2019ll usually have on. There\u2019s all sorts of different beers and different breweries from around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of the festivities, the much anticipated Sheffield Beer Report was released on Friday 1st March. Commissioned by the University of Sheffield, the report saw Sheffield retain its position as the real ale capital of the world.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report found that Sheffield is home to 58 breweries, more per head of population than anywhere else in the country, with around 780 beers produced each year.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students and beer lovers, Adam Hollingsworth, Daniel Hales, and Oliver Chubb said: \u2018It\u2019s brilliant\u2019, when talking about the beer in the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Other events throughout the week at various pubs and breweries include more tap takeovers, a 5km run around Sheffield, and plenty of craft beer tasting.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, the beer historian, Dr Christina Wade, is launching her new book, <em>The Devil\u2019s in the Draught, <\/em>about the role of women in Britain\u2019s beer history, alongside Sheffield Beer Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are even events as part of Sheffield Beer Week to mark International Women&#8217;s Day, including a walk up Higger Tor on Friday.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To find out more about all the events taking place this year, click <a href=\"https:\/\/sheffieldbeerweek.co.uk\/sheffield-beer-week-2024-full-events-list\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/03\/20240306_115129-1024x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50008\" style=\"width:825px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Breweries across Sheffield are celebrating the city\u2019s tenth annual beer week.
