{"id":50448,"date":"2024-03-11T15:35:44","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T15:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/?p=50448"},"modified":"2024-03-11T15:35:44","modified_gmt":"2024-03-11T15:35:44","slug":"60000-funding-breathes-new-life-into-run-down-playground-in-deepcar","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/03\/11\/60000-funding-breathes-new-life-into-run-down-playground-in-deepcar\/","title":{"rendered":"\u00a360,000 funding breathes new life into run down playground in Deepcar"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A down-at-heel playground in Deepcar has been refurbished after a group raised \u00a360,000 in funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Friends of Fox Glen Park came together to refurbish the children&#8217;s play area on Wood Royd Road in the village just north of Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group was formed in late July 2022 with the aim of replacing rusty and unsafe equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dorothy Whittaker, a member of the community group said: \u201cWe are very proud of what we\u2019ve achieved\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group said the playground which was originally envisaged as the \u201cpremier children&#8217;s facility in the area\u201d has been deemed unsuitable and in need of serious refurbishment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within the community there has been concern that the declining park could be in danger of becoming a focus for anti-social behaviour.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/03\/FB_IMG_1710168533815-1-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50466\" style=\"width:467px;height:auto\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The playground before being refurbished<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Through raising awareness on the state of the park and working closely alongside the local schools, Friends of Fox Glen Park won a series of grants from the local council and organisations like the National Lottery Community Fund, Sheffield Town Trust and the J. G. Graves Trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The grants won by the group in aid of the playground included a \u00a320,000 sum from the local Participatory Budgeting scheme in which the group received the most votes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a council meeting last week, Ruth Bell, Head of Parks and Countryside acknowledged the community group\u2019s \u201cinvaluable work\u201d and that of \u2018Friends\u2019 groups across the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The playground now has an array of brand new equipment for all of the local community to enjoy, including a climbing frame and swings with an inclusive roundabout still to be installed.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A down-at-heel playground in Deepcar has been refurbished after a group raised \u00a360,000 in funding.
