{"id":50461,"date":"2024-03-11T15:42:55","date_gmt":"2024-03-11T15:42:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/?p=50461"},"modified":"2024-04-29T14:38:58","modified_gmt":"2024-04-29T14:38:58","slug":"sheffield-students-raise-over-350-for-head-and-neck-cancer-charity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/03\/11\/sheffield-students-raise-over-350-for-head-and-neck-cancer-charity\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield students raise over \u00a3350 for head and neck cancer charity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two Masters students at The University of Sheffield have organised a bake sale and raffle to raise money for The Swallows Head &amp; Neck Cancer Group charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was organised to mark National Hydration Week which takes place from 11 &#8211; 17 March and swallowing awareness day which is on 13 March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emily Green and Eve Flanagan aimed to raise \u00a3250 for those suffering with dysphagia &#8211; the medical term for difficulty swallowing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emily, a second year masters student, said: \u201cI think about all the times I go out to eat with my friends. That\u2019s how I socialise. I can\u2019t imagine not having that.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students offered homemade cakes, Wetherspoons vouchers, Amazon vouchers, gin, prosecco and much more alongside a raffle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" data-id=\"50471\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sheflive.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/14\/2024\/03\/IMG_5043-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-50471\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Photo taken by: Eve Flanagan and Emily Green <\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inspiration for supporting charity came from a speech and language therapy lecture the students had where they got to meet with a hospital patient getting treated for suspected dysphagia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a response to the lecture Emily said: \u2018It made me think about the importance of food and the connection we have with it.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is their first time organising this fundraiser and they raised more than \u00a3100 over their target.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The students will be personally donating the money to their chosen charity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To donate online and find out more see <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/page\/uni-of-sheffield-fundraiser-2024?newPage=true\">https:\/\/www.justgiving.com\/page\/uni-of-sheffield-fundraiser-2024?newPage=true<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-2 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Two Masters students at The University of Sheffield have organised a bake sale and raffle to raise money for The Swallows Head &amp; Neck Cancer Group charity.
