Sheffield Council have proposed a new budget of around \u00a3543m for 2024\/25, as well as ‘four-year Medium Term Financial Strategy’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Executive presented a report setting out a final draft of an ambitious four-year Council Plan for Sheffield City Council following public consultation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As part of the strategy, there is to be introduction of new ‘equivalent’ Band D Council Tax, and an near 5% increase in the overall tax to help fund the budget.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Councillor Tony Downing, who represents the Mosborough ward, said: \u201cThis is a balanced albeit challenging budget, and we have all had to make difficult decisions to get to this point\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe know residents are suffering because of the cost of living crisis, and this is also bringing incredible pressures on council budgets and local services.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council’s plan sets out a mission statement for the organisation \u2013 \u2018together we get things done\u2019 – and five strategic outcomes for the organisation<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The committee had considered various alternatives to the plan, such as a one year short-term Corporate Delivery Plan, which was rejected in order to add a longer term focus to the council’s ambitions and goals . <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheffield Council have also made a pledge to continue the transition to a net zero economy, whilst still ‘protecting our local environment”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Walkley councillor Tom Hunt said: “We are only in this position because we have managed our budget prudently and responsibly. And there can be no let-up”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
