{"id":51174,"date":"2024-04-23T15:35:04","date_gmt":"2024-04-23T15:35:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=51174"},"modified":"2024-04-23T15:38:16","modified_gmt":"2024-04-23T15:38:16","slug":"absielers-ascend-university-building-to-raise-money-for-childrens-hospital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2024\/04\/23\/absielers-ascend-university-building-to-raise-money-for-childrens-hospital\/","title":{"rendered":"Abseilers descend university building to raise money for Sheffield Children&#8217;s Hospital"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A team of charity fundraisers have abseiled down the Owen Building in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On Sunday 21st of April, 50 charity fundraisers were strapped in above the Sheffield Hallam Owen Building before braving the 140 ft fall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The \u2018Team Theo\u2019 abseiling event has raised approximately \u00a312,000 for the Children&#8217;s Hospital in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fundraising Participants had between 10:00 &#8211; 16:00 on Sunday to abseil down the University&#8217;s main entrance on City Campus overlooking Hallam Square.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the first abseil event this year with \u2018Team Theo\u2019 running a second in early October of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Today we roped in 50 of our supporters for Team Theo\u2019s abseil! \ud83d\udc99\ud83d\udc9b<br><br>Together everyone who took part has raised over \u00a312,000 so far! How abseil-utely incredible is that?<br><br>We are so grateful to <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DolomiteUK?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@DolomiteUK<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/sheffhallamuni?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@sheffhallamuni<\/a> and our volunteers for making the event possible. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/AUGhu7xSgL\">pic.twitter.com\/AUGhu7xSgL<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Sheffield Children&#39;s (@SheffChildrens) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SheffChildrens\/status\/1782080293316309157?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 21, 2024<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunday&#8217;s abseil was just one of many diverse fundraising events held by the \u2018Team Theo\u2019s\u2019 organisers; who are named after the children&#8217;s hospital mascot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Future fundraising events include; Hikes, Skydives, 5-a-side tournaments&nbsp;and&nbsp;an additional abseiling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Registration for these events is available now;&nbsp;<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/events.tchc.org.uk\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Team Theo&nbsp;Events :&nbsp;Home (tchc.org.uk)<\/a>&nbsp;A minimum of \u00a3100 is needed for those wishing to join the fundraiser.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the many abseilers taking part, Lauren Morton, 35, said \u201cI want to raise money for a great charity, it&#8217;s something to test myself a little because I am terrified of heights\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lauren managed to raise over \u00a3300 towards the hospital in support of her abseil this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Children\u2019s Hospital has stated that the money raised will go towards a comfortable and engaging environment built with children in mind, specialist medical equipment, new facilities to extend the range of treatment provided, and research into the care, prevention&nbsp;and&nbsp;cure of childhood illnesses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Morton said: \u201cI know a lot of people that have been there, myself included when I was little, my daughter when she was younger as well and they do a lot of good work.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The event was originally planned to take place on the 16th of April but was postponed due to unsuitable weather conditions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you wish to sign up for the next Charity abseil you must be aged 16 to get involved and those under 18 years old need to be accompanied by a guardian.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For further information regarding future children&#8217;s hospital fundraising groups, you can call 0114 321 2470 or email events@tchc.org.uk<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A team of charity fundraisers have abseiled down the Owen Building in Sheffield.
