A new independent, zero-waste shop has opened in Broomhill, Sheffield, aiming to attract students to make a positive change towards a sustainable lifestyle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shop opened its doors this Monday, April 22nd, at 467 Glossop Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The owners, Sam and Taylor Ogle-Timson, a newlywed couple, set up this zero-waste establishment after meeting as students at the University of Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trixie\u2019s Pantry is a project close to both their hearts, naming the business after their pet dog, Trixie. The shop sells groceries in small amounts in order to reduce waste and make it attractive to students who cook for one. Shoppers can buy or bring their own jars and bottles for refills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sam Ogle-Timson, 24, a recent graduate of Sheffield University, was the previous Welfare and Sustainability officer as well as a part of the Sustainability committee and highlighted how he hopes to \u2018bring more students into the sustainability scene\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBecause students can buy like 200 grams of some products, depending on how many you are making it for, it’s more cost-effective in the long term for yourselves.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: \u201cI think Sheffield students will respond to this very well\u201d and \u201cit is nice to add and build on the collection we already have in Sheffield and build on it so that students are more able to shop locally and within their own communities and do their part for the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the shop\u2019s location, the store hopes to attract the many students living in the area as well as local residents in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In particular, students in the first year and those living around the Broomhill area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rosie Wood, a student at the University of Sheffield who makes consistent efforts for a sustainable lifestyle, said: \u201cThe new opening of the shop is exciting to me as I like being able to switch up where I shop, and it makes a change from the bigger brand supermarkets we are restricted to.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trixie\u2019s Pantry plays a significant role in the community and makes great efforts to source \u2018as locally as possible\u2019 and many of its products are from Sheffield companies and suppliers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trixie\u2019s Pantry aims to continue to source their produce locally, which will help the economy and allow an \u2018everybody wins\u2019 result.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
