A bus has mounted the kerb and crashed into bus shelters at Crystal Peaks bus station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident happened on Monday 22 April at around 6.30pm. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paula Mountain, who was on a bus coming into Crystal Peaks said: \u201c I couldn\u2019t believe what I was seeing as it smashed through bottom shelters. There were 2 young lads running up to catch it then I saw them running back, it was horrible. They were very lucky, I am just glad that no one was standing at any of the other shelters; it could have been far worse.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Yorkshire Police and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue attended to the incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said it sent crews from Birley and Aston fire stations to the incident, and were on the scene until 7.04pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

South Yorkshire police said: \u201c We were called to Crystal Peaks Bus Station, Peaks Mount, to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision. Fire and police attended and the road was closed to allow for vehicle recovery and to clear the road.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Virginia Bradfield in a comment on Facebook about the incident said: \u201cIn all the years I\u2019ve lived in the area I\u2019ve never seen anything like this. My word what a state. Glad people are okay.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday 24th April Travel South Yorkshire announced on social media that Crystal Peaks interchange had reopened and temporary bus stops were in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority said: \u201cNo passengers were on the bus at the time and nobody was injured as a result of this incident.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There has been speculation of what possibly could have happened on social media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

User Angelwings17 on Reddit said: \u201c I live close by, I do know that at the time of the crash, there was no one waiting at the bus shelters (which is very lucky) The bus was seen being moved last night.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No official statement has been released by TM travel about the incident. However Travel South Yorkshire has worked with the site owners to arrange temporary facilities whilst repairs take place. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
