Sheffield artists will be opening their studio doors all over Steel City for an annual event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Open Up Sheffield promises to “provide space for all manner of artists and makers across the city and beyond”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artist Celia Bennett<\/a>, originally from Cheltenham, said: “It\u2019s an opportunity to find out about people more than just their art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“You can understand their thoughts, their hopes and their dreams.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event is organised by volunteers and is sponsored by Sheffield City Council and the Art House, with over 120 artists taking part this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Bennett said: “There’s artists who draw local landscapes, jewellery makers, furniture, instrument makers, amongst all the different painters.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“There’s a huge diversity of art in Sheffield; it’s the best of all worlds, it has everything a city can offer.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The group work with a range of instruments including guitars and violas<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Bowed and Plucked<\/a>, a collective of “four good friends” who work to make and repair instruments, are exhibiting for the first time this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ask Steinkjer Eide, of Bowed and Plucked, said: \u201cWe\u2019re excited to meet new people and begin to engage more with the community around us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou can expect to see finished instruments, parts of the making process and a lot of specialist tools and equipment!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors will be able to buy the group’s work, as well as inquire about workshops, tuition and commissions at their studio at 27 Montgomery Avenue, Nether Edge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ms Bennett also deeply encourages students to come along to the exhibition, saying: “It’s a great afternoon out, artists will be selling a variety of work, some of which might fit in with student budgets.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that there is “dichotomy” between her sketches and her paintings: “I like losing myself in the flow of the painting and drawing and seeing where it goes.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She described her work as “free with lots of texture and movement”, but that “if you’re [sketching] a landmark like the Leadmill, it has to be identifiable.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Visitors can experience her working at her studio located at 10 Pendeen Road, Nethergreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event will run over two weekends (4, 5 and 6 May and 11 and 12 May) with the majority of studios opening from 11am to 5pm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
