event promoting body positivity to raise funds for local charity"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sheffield Hallam graduate Jasmine Concannon created the event as part of her final project, which focused on linking social media and magazines to body dysmorphia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&#8216;Beyond the Mirror\u2019 took place on April 10th at Kommune, Sheffield City Centre, collaborating with Pop Up Painting to raise money for the Body Dysmorphic Foundation (BDD).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jasmine, the visionary behind the event, said: \u201cI thought it would be a good way to unite people over such an important issue and the BDD foundation supported me all the way by sending me flyers and posters for the event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The event raised over \u00a3300 for the BDD Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Jasmine added: \u201cI would love to do something like this again; the painting aspect is definitely a good way to raise money in general and the support was heart-warming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe painted Frida Kahlo to highlight self-confidence and it would be cool to focus on other local charities with a different topic to highlight in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-crowdsignal wp-block-embed-crowdsignal\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<script>var pd_tags = new Array;pd_tags[\"13705021-src\"]=\"poll-oembed-simple\";<\/script><script type=\"text\/javascript\" charset=\"utf-8\" src=\"https:\/\/secure.polldaddy.com\/p\/13705021.js\"><\/script><noscript><iframe title=\"If &#039;Beyond the Mirror&#039; These flaws are often unnoticeable to others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">People of any age can have BDD, but it&#8217;s most common in teenagers and young adults. It affects both men and women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Those suffering from BDD often avoid seeking medical treatment due to the lack of research and instead opt for cosmetic procedures to temporally mask how they feel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mille Scott, 21 contoured her nose with make-up every day since she was 12.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She decided to seek private health care at 18 to get a rhinoplasty; however, her insecurities remain the same.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI often use painting as an outlet for my internal suffering.
