the England Deaf Football Team at the Championships in Antalya.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will Palmer, 22, is a striker for the England Deaf Football Team with the squad training hard for the tournament which will start on the 20th of May.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Palmer said: \u201cWe want to show the younger generations with a disability that deafness should not be a barrier and we want to be role models.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The team recently headed to Portugal for a warm weather training camp, which consisted of a mix of training and games to prepare for the tournament. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Palmer also said: \u201cI am not the type of person to say I want five goals at a tournament, I want to be a reliable player that can impact the game and can be counted on\u00a0all the time.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Palmer had previously been injured and only returned to playing competitively in April.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">On his return to competitive football, Mr Palmer participated in the Deaf Champions League with Farsley Celtic FC, scoring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deafchampionsleague.eu\/athens2024\/football\/men\/matches\/group-a\/player\/34-2024-football-men\/525-william-palmer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2 goals<\/a>, which led to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deafchampionsleague.eu\/athens2024\/football\/men\/last-news\/last-news\/1349-final-placement\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">3<sup>rd<\/sup> place finish<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Will Perkins, one of the coaching staff for the squad, said: \u201cThe tournament is going to be tough, with hot conditions and a number of high-quality teams but we are confident of doing well.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The squad achieved a top 10 finish in the 4<sup>th<\/sup> World Deaf Football Championships in Kuala Lumpur last year, losing to Turkey 4-3 in the <a href=\"https:\/\/wdfc2023.msdeaf.org.my\/results.php?g=m\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">9<sup>th<\/sup>-10<sup>th<\/sup> place play-off<\/a>. &nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Deaf football has a few adaptations to mainstream 11 a side football, with referees raising a flag whilst they blow their whistle to stop the game as well as players having to remove any hearing aids or cochlear implants on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.englandfootball.com\/play\/Disability-Football\/Deaf-Football\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">international stage<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
