The caf\u00e9 sells a multitude of CBD products and is described as a ‘pillar of the community’ by Mr Chu and many regular customers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
One customer described him as “a community legend” for his work helping cancer patients with ailments they have had. Mr Chu claims that he has helped 38 patients who had stage four terminal cancer make a full recovery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before opening Cheeba Cheeba in April 2020, Mr Chu was homeless and suffered from severe depression until a close friend mentioned the idea of opening up a CBD caf\u00e9. Once finding a place to rent, he used the last of his savings and his credit card to pay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Chu said: “I had nothing. This credit card was my lifeline.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“That’s where I was at that point in life. I was in a very dark place.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After opening, the caf\u00e9 became a community comfort during Covid-19 and formed a large support network with its customers during the end of the lockdown. Since then, it has grown in popularity with profits of up to \u00a35,000 in its first week of re-opening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If the caf\u00e9 does not reach its target, Mr Chu has said that he will find another place to rent or attempt to rent from a new owner who buys the current property.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, Mr Chu has expressed much affection for his business and his customers and is determined to do anything to keep the caf\u00e9 open. He said: “People don’t want it to go. People love this shop<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It’s become bigger than what you see.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
