People from all around Grenoside came to throw their unwanted items in a massive 20 yard Roro skip as part of a quarterly clean-up operation organised by members of Ecclesfield Parish Council. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The parish has tried to hold these skip days four times a year since 2022, between 8am and 11am, across the six wards of Burncross, Chapeltown, Ecclesfield, High Green,Thorncliffe and Grenoside. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emma Collins, community coordinator at the council, said: \u201cThey are all about putting things back into the community. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThey give people local places where they can get rid of their rubbish.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
As well as the environmental benefits that these skip days bring – combating the issue of fly tipping and waste around parts of Sheffield – there are also health benefits to people as they can clear out their houses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Collins said: \u201cThese events tick all the boxes, they\u2019re free and easy, good for the environment and encourage cleaner homes and gardens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOn an organisational front it\u2019s a good forward-facing thing for us as the people that come along can see the parish out and about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Items such as bathtubs, old sofas and old garden furniture are among those that are thrown into the skip. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some items which are considered ‘too good to skip’, such as bikes and children’s toy buggies are left beside the skip and are then reused. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The latest event was held on March 8. Once the skip is full, a registered skip company legally and responsibly disposes of the rubbish in it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Collins said: \u201cThese events are driven by something the people want. It promotes people to throw away waste leading to a tidier parish.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
