{"id":54393,"date":"2025-03-19T16:04:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-19T16:04:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=54393"},"modified":"2025-03-19T16:46:44","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T16:46:44","slug":"sheffield-tram-users-left-upset-after-card-payments-no-longer-being-accepted-for-some-tickets","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/03\/19\/sheffield-tram-users-left-upset-after-card-payments-no-longer-being-accepted-for-some-tickets\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Tram users left upset after card payments no longer being accepted for some tickets"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>In an effort to combat fraudulent ticketing activity, the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) have announced card payments will no longer be accepted onboard for City-wide 7-Day and SY Connect 7-Day tickets.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The changes to purchasing methods for the Citywide 7-Day and SY Connect 7-Day tickets, aims to address issues which have been identified specific to these ticket types.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supertram managing director, Sean English, emphasised the importance of the change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cRemoving the card payment option onboard for these specific tickets is an important step in preventing fraudulent activity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the move has triggered some controversy as regular tram users are upset by the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pamela Crookes, 67, frequent tram user said, \u201cI don\u2019t understand it. Why have they changed it to cash only payments when people are now more than ever no longer carrying cash and only using cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI thought we had already transitioned to card so I don&#8217;t think it&#8217;s necessary to go back to cash to solve the issue.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, Ben Hughes, 20,  a student, questioned the council&#8217;s plan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cI&#8217;m not someone who regularly has cash on hand, so hopefully they don&#8217;t start applying this to shorter-range tickets.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It should also be made clear that, at present, there are no current plans to extend the changes to payments for other tram tickets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1022\" height=\"666\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Tram-Ticket-Prices-1.png\" alt=\"Highlighted tickets which have been effected by SYMCA announcement. He said: \u201cCustomers still have multiple easy and secure ways to buy their tickets.
