{"id":54834,"date":"2025-03-21T14:56:24","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T14:56:24","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=54834"},"modified":"2025-03-21T14:56:26","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T14:56:26","slug":"exclusive-dramatic-pictures-of-midnight-fires-that-terrified-campers-at-derwent-reservoir","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/03\/21\/exclusive-dramatic-pictures-of-midnight-fires-that-terrified-campers-at-derwent-reservoir\/","title":{"rendered":"EXCLUSIVE: dramatic pictures of midnight fires that terrified campers at Derwent Reservoir"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>by Lowri Rennick<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A huge wildfire in the Peak District National Park resulted in multiple fire crews being called out in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 12.09am  (March 21), South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue received reports of a wildfire in the area of Derwent Reservoir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adiy Siddiq, 19, student, was camping nearby with his friends when he saw the fire and called it in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0030-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54837\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0030-980x735.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0030-480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Siddiq said: \u201cWhat looked like an orange tint on the horizon turned out to be a fire spanning over a kilometre, engulfing everything in its path. We rapidly packed up, running away and shouting to the other tents as we went.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Firefighters from Rivelin and a crew from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue attended the scene, aided by South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue\u2019s specialised Polaris vehicle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 11.50am this morning, fire services reported that the incident was concluded, and that they had left the scene.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said: \u201cWe have made good progress tackling the fire throughout the morning, despite working on difficult terrain.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0032-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54836\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0032-980x735.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_0032-480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Fire crews are liaising with partners at the National Trust and the RSPB to mitigate damage caused by the fire.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No injuries have been reported.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>by Lowri Rennick A huge wildfire in the Peak District National Park resulted in multiple fire crews being called out in the early hours of the morning.
