{"id":54890,"date":"2025-03-24T16:34:10","date_gmt":"2025-03-24T16:34:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=54890"},"modified":"2025-05-06T13:22:40","modified_gmt":"2025-05-06T13:22:40","slug":"dismay-for-some-as-dogs-allowed-on-sheffields-supertram-network","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2025\/03\/24\/dismay-for-some-as-dogs-allowed-on-sheffields-supertram-network\/","title":{"rendered":"Dismay for some as dogs allowed on Sheffield&#8217;s Supertram network"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>People have been airing their concerns after owners were given the go-ahead to bring their dogs onto Sheffield&#8217;s trams. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This news was announced by mayor Oliver Coppard, after a public consultation took place with over 10,600 responses on the matter. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Coppard said: &#8220;Three quarters of people who responded to the survey were in favour of changing the Supertram network&#8217;s rules, which previously restricted dogs.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move was overwhelmingly supported, but some people have said they are now worried about using the network.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tram user Rachel Cullen, 44, said: &#8220;I&#8217;m concerned about this. My daughter is autistic and is absolutely terrified of dogs in general, especially their barks. It&#8217;s a shame as it&#8217;s our main form of transport around Sheffield.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"768\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_1433-1024x768.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-54940\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_1433-980x735.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/IMG_1433-480x360.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">One dog is allowed per passenger, with this new system that has been implemented.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The council announced this as a pilot system, and it will be reviewed every three months to address concerns and make changes if necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Amelie Roy, 20, also expressed worries over the announcement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;I&#8217;m highly sensitive to dog fur, so I&#8217;m worried about whether I will suffer an allergic reaction on my most frequent mode of transport. I use it to get to university so it is a concern which I have.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The South Yorkshire Combined Authority made the decision based off of success seen in different areas when trialled out. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sean English, managing director of Supertram said: &#8220;With strong public support, we welcome dogs onboard our trams.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People have been airing their concerns after owners were given the go-ahead to bring their dogs onto Sheffield&#8217;s trams.
