A ski group hoping to see the Sheffield Ski Village reopened have produced a new film to showcase the site’s potential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sheffield Ski Village, Neepsend, closed after it was destroyed by a fire in April 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now a group of snow sports fanatics want the site to be restored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mark Knowles, of Pitsmoor, a retired NHS practitioner, said:\u00a0“It never entered my mind that I\u2019d ever get the opportunity to ski, when Ski Village started to operate I took the opportunity to learn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I was skiing in Pitsmoor amongst wild rabbits, it remains one of the most surreal and beautiful moments.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Revive Sheffield Ski Village film premiered at the Sheffield adventure film festival on March 21.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pete Shipston, Revive Group founder, wants anyone who can ‘make things happen’ to know that there is a group who care and want snow sports back in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In 2017 plans were announced by Sheffield City Council of leisure company Extreme refurbishing the site as a sports centre, this never materialised.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, some are happy that this fell through.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nikki Corder, 44, of Pitsmoor, a play worker, said:\u00a0“I personally don’t want it redeveloped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The lighting may affect wildlife and spoil the sunsets, yes it would be used a lot but I can’t see it being affordable to the majority.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barney Nabas, of Pitsmoor, who also against the development said: “It’s nice to have such a big, open space in the city that feels like it caters more to wildlife than humans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I think it would be a shame to lose all of that”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New Zealand leisure company Skyline Lounge want the land, with ideas for the site including a zipline, luge ride, and gondola lift.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council confirmed that last year they received \u00a319.4 million in Levelling Up funding to enable development with Skyline.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Revive group wants to ensure the Skyline team include a ski slope in their plans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Shipston hopes the film’s footage will show the council what a renewed ski village could bring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Knowles said:\u00a0“When Ski Village started it was without a doubt one of the most impressive activities that people could do in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“It was a facility that put Pitsmoor, as well as Sheffield, on the map”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
