A devoted wife has given her husband the greatest gift anyone could ever give.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Keiran Hodgson,48 ,was diagnosed with a hereditary kidney disorder known as polycystic kidney disease 15 years ago, which his father was also born with.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He had a kidney functioning of just 15% and was suffering from numbness and tingling in his left leg with extreme fatigue and an irregular heartbeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Emma Hodgson, his wife,42, said that, \u201c\u201cUp until six months ago he had been living a full and unrestricted life and then he went downhill really sharply. I was watching him feeling extremely fatigued. He was physically and mentally unwell, experiencing lots of numbness and tingling in his legs and I was scared to death when his heart arrhythmia kicked in. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I felt like we were running out of time and something catastrophic was going to happen.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Mrs Hodgson, her husband had hid information about the the living donor donation scheme in the car. But on finding out she could be a possible match, Emma went ahead and got herself tested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Hodgson’s kidney function dropped to 11% before the transplant. They were both operated on February 27, with the surgery being successful at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201d\u201cEverything was on hold. All we could think about was the transplant date. We couldn’t think about moving, booking a holiday or getting a new car, but now I’ve got some options back. Emma has given me the greatest gift that anyone can give someone – she\u2019s given me life. Nothing I could do could ever repay her.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mrs Hodgson said,\u201d “You realise the things you normally worry about, like a bad day at work, aren’t worth the stress. Life is for living, and we’ve stopped waiting to do the things we always talked about.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The couple are now keen on spreading awareness through their story about the urgent need of more living kidney donors and are enroute recovery.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
