A Tik Tok star from Sheffield completed a 24 hour gaming stream for Mind charity in honour of his best friend who tragically died last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mike Smith, 37, from Sothall, who goes by the name ‘The Yorkshire Gamer’ said lost his best friend Rob to suicide last year and wanted to raise money on the anniversary of his passing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His original plan was to raise \u00a31,000 for the charity by playing retro video games in his home for 24 hours straight with people sending in donations for a chance to win a a giveaway prize.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cBy the time I got on the stream we were at \u00a31,500 in donations For every \u00a35 that anybody donated they got one entry into a live draw.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the 17th hour of the stream, the total raised went from \u00a32,770 to \u00a32,990. This was Rob\u2019s parents who had sent in a large donation for the stream. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Smith said: “When I looked I saw that Rob\u2019s mum and dad had made like a really generous donation and to be honest in that moment it just broke me<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI must have been silent for at least five minutes just trying to compose myself because I just couldn’t stop crying\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Throughout the stream Mr Smith had a picture of Rob on his desk. He said : “When it got tough and I felt like I didn’t know how I’m was going to get through the rest of the stream I\u2019d just look at Rob and be like \u2018this is who iIm doing it for\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Smith said: \u201cone of the main purposes of the stream was to get people to open up<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSomeone did say to me that a problem shared is a problem halved\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He spoke about small businesses that got in touch with him to donate prizes for the giveaway<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said: \u201cThings like \u00a3100 vouchers, \u00a350 vouchers and somebody donated a customised PS5 gaming controller\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
