In a statement at the time, CODE said its electricity costs had risen by 500%.

Now, the space will be transformed into Hazy Club, which aims to bring a fresh energy to the city centre.

General Manager Matt Watson said: “We were initially aiming for May, but construction pushed things back but we are confident we will be ready for the start of the new academic year in September 2025.

“We’re really focusing on the safety side of things — there will be a medic tent on site, and we’ll be using entrance scanners to ensure everyone who comes in is legitimate.

“We’re also connected to other venues in the area, so if something happens, we can respond quickly and in coordination.”

The reopening comes as student nightlife across the UK continues to face challenges, with recent studies and headlines pointing to a decline in student club attendance.

Mr Watson acknowledged the issue but remained optimistic.

He said: “We know that student loans have increased, so affordability is key.
