Sheffield is set to have a starring role in a new film premiering at Sheffield DocFest, presented by the Yorkshire Film Archive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield On Film is one of many films premiering at the 32nd edition of the documentary festival. The film will celebrate the proud history and unique cultural identity of the city through specially curated archives spanning across decades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Graham Relton, director of the film and archive manager at the Yorkshire Film Archive, said: \u201cTo be able to bring this collection and curated story of Sheffield through the lens of the films in our collections and to reveal these stories from our vaults and put them together into this sort of presented screening is just a wonderful thing to do, and it really connects with people, and it’s a sense of occasion and an event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat would be great to do that at any location in Sheffield, but to do it as part of Sheffield DocFest just adds an extra level of specialness, if you will.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Yorkshire Film Archive is a registered charity aiming to collect, preserve and provide access to moving-image made in and about Yorkshire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield On Film marks the first time the charity has directly worked with the festival, despite previously providing footage to other documentaries and feature films.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Relton continued: \u201c[Sheffield DocFest] attracts people from all over the world, but I think they\u2019re working really hard as a festival to connect locals with the festival. I think that\u2019s really important and I really advocate that and champion that because this is on people\u2019s doorsteps.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSomething like Sheffield On Film, which we\u2019re bringing to the party if you will, is for them, and I think Sheffield DocFest is really embracing their locality as well as the international appeal.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield DocFest will take place on 18-23 June. 116 films from around the world are set to screen at the UK\u2019s leading documentary festival, including 51 world premieres. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sheffield On Film will be screened on Sunday 22 June at the Crucible Theatre, with a filmmaker discussion also taking place. Another screening will take place the following day at the Showroom Cinema.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
