{"id":57561,"date":"2026-03-03T11:09:59","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T11:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=57561"},"modified":"2026-03-03T15:51:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T15:51:35","slug":"two-sustainability-stores-join-forces-in-broomhill-to-combat-business-rate-hikes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/03\/two-sustainability-stores-join-forces-in-broomhill-to-combat-business-rate-hikes\/","title":{"rendered":"Two sustainability stores join forces in Broomhill to combat business rate hikes"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A zero-waste shop has merged with a vintage emporium to create a sustainable superstore in Broomhill<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/trixiespantry?igsh=MTBsaHhuNzhqZWhzNw%3D%3D\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/trixiespantry?igsh=MTBsaHhuNzhqZWhzNw%3D%3D\">Trixie\u2019s Pantry<\/a>, a zero waste shop that offers pantry essentials and even its own peanut butter, has moved around the corner in Broomhill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The move from 467 Glossop Road to 199 Whitham Road was largely motivated by the rise in business costs this coming tax year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shop-owner, Mr Samuel Ogle-Timson, 26, from Broomhill said: \u201cEverything is going up in the new tax year. Wages are increasing. Our business rates are increasing, electric, WiFi, you name it, there is an additional cost being attached to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you\u2019re not careful, you end up sinking rather than swimming.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Trixie\u2019s Pantry, which opened in its old location in April 2024, helps to reduce plastic waste by offering pantry staples and cleaning supplies without single-use packaging.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFor Trixie\u2019s I really liked the ethos of other places like \u2018The Bare Alternative\u2019 and realised that we don\u2019t have something like that in Broomhill,\u201d Mr Ogle-Timson said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cEvery community serves itself in Sheffield so having it shouldn\u2019t negatively impact them and hopefully it would positively impact everyone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The zero-waste shop occupies the first room of Cool Stuff Vintage, which sells pre-loved items and is owned by Mr Timson\u2019s in-laws Eric and Cristina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re the ones that have the vision of how it looks, and we build it.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The new business location has been dubbed by the family as a \u2018sustainable superstore\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Ogle-Timson said: \u201cI was spreading myself a little bit too thin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been working at Trixie\u2019s, trying to source for here, trying to work here as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe environment is looking a bit more difficult for small businesses in the coming months, so we\u2019re wanting to make sure that we\u2019re ahead of that as such, so that we\u2019re not in trouble.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shop\u2019s new location on Whitham road has already increased sales.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve only been here for just over a week now but we\u2019ve had several people come in and go \u2018Oh it\u2019s great that we\u2019ve finally got a shop like this in Broomhill, the closest one\u2019s in Crookes\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter how illogical it is, if someone believes that you\u2019re much closer, then you\u2019re much closer.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is nice to see that we\u2019ve had all of the regulars come into the new place, and we have had quite a few new faces coming in to buy little bits and pieces.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A zero-waste shop has merged with a vintage emporium to create a sustainable superstore in Broomhill Trixie\u2019s Pantry, a zero waste shop that offers pantry essentials and even its own peanut butter, has moved around the corner in Broomhill.
