Other problems include loud and aggressive behaviour, drug use, dangerous driving, illegal parking, and littering.

The group says it will include a play area, benches, and rows of trees to prevent cars gathering in the area. They said: ‘It is expected to benefit young families and anybody nearby who wants more space to exercise or just sit, reflect and unwind.’

Councillor Michael Chilton for Manor Castle believes that this park stands a good chance of tackling the problems, as it is on the section of the road most used by those causing problems. He said: ‘ It gives ownership of the area to the people, and acts as a central point for communities to come together and enjoy.’

Sheffield City Council will introduce an Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO), which will partially close part of South Street by using temporary concrete blocks to prevent vehicles from parking and gathering. This scheme will start around April and will be monitored during a six-month consultation period.

During this closure, councillors and the community have plans to set up food and craft stalls to raise awareness about the park’s opening and make the most of the reclaimed space.

The councillor said: ‘We need everyone to be feeding back’, as he is urging residents who spot any change in the area to contact them. This will allow the council to make any adjustments to the scheme if needed to reach their long term solution.

Residents from Park Hill, Sheffield are celebrating after plans for a new park are set to replace neglected space in a bid to tackle serious anti-social behaviour.
