{"id":58150,"date":"2026-03-03T12:58:58","date_gmt":"2026-03-03T12:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=58150"},"modified":"2026-03-03T13:12:21","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T13:12:21","slug":"huge-avalanche-of-uncertainty-widowed-pensioner-left-stranded-by-pm-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/03\/huge-avalanche-of-uncertainty-widowed-pensioner-left-stranded-by-pm-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8216;Huge avalanche of uncertainty&#8217;: Widowed pensioner left stranded by PM closure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The shock closure of national law firm Proddow Mackay has left clients thousands out of pocket and in a &#8216;huge avalanche of uncertainty&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PM law, with a Sheffield branch located on Shepcote Lane, is currently under investigation by the SRA for potential fraud following the closure on the February 2nd which abandoned many clients in the middle of ongoing cases, as well as leaving hundreds of employees out of work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Client Kathryn Ward, 77, from Wrington North Somerset said: \u201cWhat I thought I was going to be able to do quite easily has all disappeared. It\u2019s made me uncertain and it\u2019s a horrible feeling. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt was a case of total disbelief because you never imagine that a huge organisation who I had actually liaised with and shared personal information about myself too, could suddenly close. I was in a state of shock and I thought, what happens now?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mrs Ward had been working with a solicitor from PM Law since December 2024 in the lead up to her court case this Wednesday, which would see her car insurance company recieve a verdict following an accident on the road that occurred in July 2024.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Steven Jolly, 70, retired teacher formerly from West Yorkshire and another victim to the PM Law closure, said: \u201cThe collapse of PM Property Lawyers has left us in shock and anger that our money has been misappropriated and our case incomplete.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Jolly had been in connection with PM Law for 10 months with PM Property lawyers acting for him and his partner in regards to the sale of their purchased house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe closure of the firm was discovered by chance when I received a bill with interest for Stamp Duty from HMRC . This has resulted in my wife and I being out of pocket by over \u00a32200 as we paid the bill to avoid further penalties. PM Property Lawyers were meant to have paid it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;We are hopeful that we will get our money back and that our ownership of our new home&nbsp; will be registered with the Land Registry . We take some comfort that our situation is not as bad or as horrendous that others have encountered.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following concerns from clients, the SRA immediately launched an investigation into the firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonathan Peddie, Executive Director of Legal and Enforcement, said: \u201cWe are investigating a potential fraud, including the misappropriation of client money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe recognise that there is a strong public interest in this case, given the significant impact on clients. Alongside doing everything we can to protect and support clients, we are moving as quickly as we can with our investigation.
