A charity supporting families suffering post-sepation abuse has managed to keep its doors open after a plea to Sheffield city to raise \u00a312,000 – but says it still can\u2019t reopen its waiting list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mums in Need raised over \u00a315,000 through online donations to combat a short-term funding crisis. However, due to lack of resources, the waiting list for the charity has been closed since November 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sheffield-based charity is the only charity in the UK which helps women and their children navigate post-separation abuse and currently supports nearly 70 families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miranda Allen, an ambassador of Mums in Need, said: \u201cIf the money had not been raised the charity would have to close down. It would have been the end. So many people would be affected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, despite smashing the fundraising target, Mums in Need continues to face funding issues, which resulted in the closing of the waiting list. The charity is struggling to support more women and children in Sheffield who require the expertise of the team at Mums in Need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miranda said: \u201cThe aim is to bring in more people, not turn them away.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Many members of the team at Mums in Need have lived-in experience of post-separation abuse and coercive control, including Miranda, who used Mums in Need during her time of crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miranda said first hand experience is crucial in supporting women and children navigating similar circumstances, and the money raised will allow the charity to continue supporting these families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said: \u201cBeing able to speak to someone who gets it without question is gold.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Being the only charity in the UK which supports families experiencing post-separation abuse, it is vital that Mums in Need is able to continue supporting families in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cClosing our doors would leave these mothers, and their children, facing a frightening and isolating journey without the specialist support they urgently need and deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Miranda said the \u00a315,000 raised will allow the charity to continue supporting the current 70 families who rely on Mums in Need, however, more women and children in Sheffield currently require the expertise of the charity, and this can only be achieved if the charity receives more support in fundraising for resources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
