{"id":58283,"date":"2026-03-04T14:48:23","date_gmt":"2026-03-04T14:48:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=58283"},"modified":"2026-03-04T14:48:26","modified_gmt":"2026-03-04T14:48:26","slug":"sheffield-beer-week-aims-to-help-safeguard-citys-brewing-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/04\/sheffield-beer-week-aims-to-help-safeguard-citys-brewing-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Beer Week aims to help safeguard city&#8217;s brewing industry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Sheffield launches its 12th annual Beer Week on Monday &#8211;  as independent breweries and bars say they are facing increasing economic pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With over 50 tap rooms, pubs and venues participating, organisers are hopeful that the city-wide trail will bring in customers and create a financial boost to local businesses during what industry leaders describe as a &#8216;survival crisis&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to figures from the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA), UK brewery closures have risen sharply within the past year, amidst soaring costs and lower consumer spending.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ethan Brown, 34, manager at independently-owned Alder Bar in Neespend, believes collaboration has become essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;Working together, especially in this industry at the moment, is very important.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"623\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_5609-1024x623.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-58368\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_5609-980x596.jpeg 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_5609-480x292.jpeg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">A live band performing at the Alder Bar in Neepsend<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As part of Sheffield&#8217;s Beer Week, there will be numerous tap takeovers, with individual breweries&#8217; beers being the main or only ones on sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These include Triple Point at Riverside Kelham, Black Iris at Hallamshire House, Arbor Ales at The Greystones and Alder Bar&#8217;s week-long takeover by Courier Brewing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Smaller breweries say a week-long tap takeover provides guaranteed bar space within the competitive brewery market, allowing them to showcase multiple beers to new consumers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Selling beer directly through independent bars and taprooms means these smaller businesses keep more of the profit, rather than losing a share to large distributors, in turn bringing in extra income.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Brown said: &#8220;If I go and enjoy a beer, that definitely gives me a loyalty to that brewery. Nine out of ten people always remember a good beer.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Founded by Jules Gray, Sheffield Beer Week was created not just as a celebration of craft beer but as an economical drive, which within its first year, she said led to &#8216;increased footfall&#8217;, heightened &#8216;awareness&#8217; and attracted tourists to Sheffield .<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As costs continue to rise, events like Beer Week are becoming increasingly necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Brown said: &#8220;It&#8217;s a good way of getting people excited about it again and I think that&#8217;s been lost over the last few years.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield launches its 12th annual Beer Week on Monday &#8211; as independent breweries and bars say they are facing increasing economic pressure.
