{"id":58822,"date":"2026-03-10T13:09:47","date_gmt":"2026-03-10T13:09:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=58822"},"modified":"2026-03-10T13:32:40","modified_gmt":"2026-03-10T13:32:40","slug":"concerns-over-sheffield-food-festival-damaging-rose-garden-cafe-business-over-bank-holiday-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/10\/concerns-over-sheffield-food-festival-damaging-rose-garden-cafe-business-over-bank-holiday-weekend\/","title":{"rendered":"Concerns over Sheffield food festival damaging Rose Garden Cafe business over bank holiday weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Charity Friends of Graves Park<\/strong> <strong>has raised concerns over a planned Sheffield food festival damaging business for a much-loved cafe<\/strong> <strong>during one of its busiest weekends of the year.<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>A charity interested in the wellbeing of Sheffield\u2019s largest park have raised concerns about the Graves Park Food Festival causing a loss for the Rose Garden Cafe situated nearby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival, which will take place over the August Bank Holiday weekend, will involve an artisan market as well as international food and drink stalls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Caroline Dewar, the Chair of the Friends of Graves Park charity, said during a meeting of Sheffield City Council on 9 March: \u201cFriends of Graves Park are broadly in favour of events in Graves Park, however it is against the covenants to fence off part of the park and charge for entry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGraves park is free to use and a major draw on a bank holiday. This freedom will be seriously impacted by the food fair, as will the business of the Rose Garden Caf\u00e9 which the trustees are supposed to be supporting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI understand that the Rose Garden Caf\u00e9&#8217;s trade was seriously impacted last year by the food fair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey took drastically less than they would normally take over a weekend which is why it would be a problem for it to be over a bank holiday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey could stand it last year but it will seriously impact their trade this year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although only covering three and a half acres, the festival will take place in the field right beside the Rose Garden Caf\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Currently, with every coffee sale in the Rose Garden Cafe, 10p will be donated to its restoration fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival was also held last year, but its new date as a bank holiday is set to cause more disruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield City Council currently runs the park through the Charity Trustee Sub-Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Councillor Richard Williams, committee chair, said: \u201cMy understanding is that the shops around Hillsborough do very well over the Tramlines weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying that will happen in Graves Park but it could do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe will ensure that it\u2019s monitored and if there is a detrimental impact on the Rose Garden Caf\u00e9 then we\u2019ll obviously bear that in mind for future years.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There has been an ongoing conflict between the council and the Friends of Graves Park charity which has launched a petition on the council&#8217;s website to alter the details of the park\u2019s stewardship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The festival has been approached for comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Charity Friends of Graves Park has raised concerns over a planned Sheffield food festival damaging business for a much-loved cafe during one of its busiest weekends of the year.
