{"id":59198,"date":"2026-03-18T12:51:11","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T12:51:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=59198"},"modified":"2026-03-18T12:53:16","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T12:53:16","slug":"cant-wait-to-be-king-walkley-primary-school-to-raise-950-for-lion-cub-sculpture","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/18\/cant-wait-to-be-king-walkley-primary-school-to-raise-950-for-lion-cub-sculpture\/","title":{"rendered":"&#8220;Can&#8217;t wait to be king!&#8221; &#8211; Walkley Primary school to raise \u00a3950 for lion cub sculpture"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Almost \u00a31k is to be raised by St Mary\u2019s CE primary, Walkley to adopt a lion cub sculpture from the Pride of Yorkshire trail.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St Mary\u2019s have made \u00a3180 by hosting a bake sale with cakes donated by their catering provider, The Pantry.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school have been involved with the \u2018Pride of Yorkshire\u2019 trails for ten years and have continually been committed to raising money for the children\u2019s hospital.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sylvie Roux, the event organiser and cover teacher for the school said: \u201cIt is one of the most valuable charities that we have locally.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school plans to hold a raffle on the 20th of March to reach their goal of \u00a3950 for the sculpture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>St Mary\u2019s has received a range of donations from Sheffield united football tickets to vouchers for local restaurants and businesses.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"781\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/bake-sale-781x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59200\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The Pantry&#8217;s valentines day themed biscuits for the school bake sale.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Roux added: \u201cIt has been lovely to see how generous people are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Joy Burgess, the school\u2019s head-teacher said: \u201cStaff and parents and the community have generously donated and bought raffle prizes&nbsp;to raise funds and our own PFA are busy organising an Easter disco with our very own resident school DJ!
