{"id":59228,"date":"2026-03-13T16:31:47","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T16:31:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=59228"},"modified":"2026-03-20T15:10:28","modified_gmt":"2026-03-20T15:10:28","slug":"sheffield-hospital-charity-raises-awareness-for-womens-inequalities-in-healthcare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/13\/sheffield-hospital-charity-raises-awareness-for-womens-inequalities-in-healthcare\/","title":{"rendered":"Sheffield Hospital Charity raises awareness for women&#8217;s inequalities in healthcare"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/NWLB-1200-x-800-px-1024x683.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59235\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/NWLB-1200-x-800-px-1024x683.png 1024w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/NWLB-1200-x-800-px-980x653.png 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/NWLB-1200-x-800-px-480x320.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-3f70e746de396e0a43d5056ab2d24886 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sheffield Hospitals Charity has handed out handmade yellow mimosa flowers to raise awareness of inequalities women face in healthcare on the 8th March. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-512ccc672af459409353d9a8a19efa0d wp-block-paragraph\">For International Women&#8217;s Day this year, Sheffield Hospitals Charity aimed to highlight the problems that women face as patients and as staff in healthcare today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-fbcb2da9517059bc9feae8537b54a9a8 wp-block-paragraph\">The #NoWomanLeftBehind campaign was launched last International Women&#8217;s Day with three main focus areas of maternal health, NHS staff impacted by domestic abuse and early cancer diagnosis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-d879beb8f33906b592bd5fc15187b6a3 wp-block-paragraph\">The campaign has been supported by important female figures from across the city, including Reverend and the Makers\u2019 Laura McClure and Sheffield United Women FC players. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-40952e70600bdb17c3041b23408f3aec wp-block-paragraph\">Corinna Pearce, marketing and communications officer for the charity, said: \u201cWomen and girls in Sheffield need our support more than ever which is why we launched this campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-22b0f4e84f36208ad655752099ad481c wp-block-paragraph\">The charity gave wristbands, crochet and knitted yellow mimosa flowers out to the public as the flowers are famously associated with International Women&#8217;s Day, as a symbol of female strength, resilience, and empowerment.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-77fc6796c1662dc29a3e49a15095c796 wp-block-paragraph\">The flowers were crafted by the charity&#8217;s &#8220;Crafting for Good&#8221; project where supporters create and donate their own gifts for those in need. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-11e2e56084eba20d47b7ee5cd505cd29 wp-block-paragraph\">The Sheffield Hospital Charity has plans for projects that support NHS staff who have experienced or are experiencing domestic abuse, support for women during pregnancy and beyond, including mental health support and are supporting women in the most deprived areas of the city to access early cancer diagnosis screening. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-e77957f18218263316f2b9862c5dfbf8 wp-block-paragraph\">Ms Pearce said: \u201cThere are social, moral, and economic reasons to invest in tackling women\u2019s health inequalities in the city.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-990931500719721ae123a3a04b9105ba wp-block-paragraph\">According to the Sheffield Hospitals Charity website, women across Yorkshire and Humber have some of the highest domestic abuse rates in the country- with nurses three times more likely to experience domestic abuse than the average person. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-b00e0c5076548dfa2a892d3889567256 wp-block-paragraph\">The website also highlights the fact that female nurses and doctors are more likely to take their lives than their male counterparts, which makes the work and support this campaign creates even more important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-bbb82fafb9b98f20a9804a025312e51e wp-block-paragraph\">For more information about future events involving #NoWomanLeftBehind, follow Sheffield Hospitals Charity on social media or sign up to their website to keep up with dates and events. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-post-time-to-read\">353 words<\/div>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sheffield Hospitals Charity has handed out handmade yellow mimosa flowers to raise awareness of inequalities women face in healthcare on the 8th March.
