{"id":59241,"date":"2026-03-13T15:22:42","date_gmt":"2026-03-13T15:22:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=59241"},"modified":"2026-03-13T15:22:51","modified_gmt":"2026-03-13T15:22:51","slug":"temporary-dry-ski-slope-hopes-to-revive-interest-in-sheffield-ski-village","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/13\/temporary-dry-ski-slope-hopes-to-revive-interest-in-sheffield-ski-village\/","title":{"rendered":"Temporary dry ski slope hopes to revive interest in Sheffield Ski Village"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Revive Sheffield Ski Village is building a dry slope which should allow up to 50 people a day to have a go for Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The group hopes to remind people what a dry slope could mean for Sheffield as a photo exhibition will showcase old photos from the ski village and freestyle skiers, snowboarders and mountain bikers will show off their skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Untitled-design-1-1024x512.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-59253\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Untitled-design-1-1024x512.png 1024w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Untitled-design-1-980x490.png 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Untitled-design-1-480x240.png 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Peter Shipston, 52, from near Grace Park is a project manager for his own company and has been working in construction for many years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: \u201cIt seemed like nothing was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Shipston and his friends enjoyed the ski slope for many years from 1999 right up until its closure due to the fires in 2012. They began working on reviving the ski slopes as part of a construction project for more green spaces in Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dIt\u2019s an outdoor activity, a really healthy thing to do, people go up there 2 \/ 3 hours.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside the health benefits, Mr Shipston spoke about the benefits it could also bring economically if there were to be restaurants, shops and other activities in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dIt would bring an economical use to a green space.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Last year Revive Sheffield Ski Village first showed their ideas at ShAFF by premiering a film showcasing the old site.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The positive impact this had can be seen as the survey put out went from 300 responses pre-film to 1500 post event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dWe put a survey out there because the council will look at official statistics.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Shipston urges people to get involved and share any enthusiasm they might have for the project or prospect of the Ski Village returning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201dThe longer it goes on the more it gets forgotten about.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The survey for the Ski Village to return is linked below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/docs.google.com\/forms\/d\/e\/1FAIpQLSc8irXptl6Z_gzWEJJrTj9VuPu2rNH2jOv91fOkY3q3KwTxfw\/viewform\">Do You want a new Ski Slope in Sheffield?<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Revive Sheffield Ski Village is building a dry slope which should allow up to 50 people a day to have a go for Sheffield Adventure Film Festival (ShAFF).
