{"id":59310,"date":"2026-03-17T11:54:27","date_gmt":"2026-03-17T11:54:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=59310"},"modified":"2026-03-17T11:57:49","modified_gmt":"2026-03-17T11:57:49","slug":"potholes-causing-safety-risk-and-damage-to-cars","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/17\/potholes-causing-safety-risk-and-damage-to-cars\/","title":{"rendered":"Potholes causing safety risk and damage to cars."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>People in Sheffield have said they are fed up of potholes in roads which they said are damaging vehicles and posing a risk to traffic safety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An urgent council meeting was called last month to discuss this issue that is taking over the roads of Sheffield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The council currently has a 25-year \u00a32.2 billion deal with contractor Amey to maintain its roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tom Wright, a 19 year old University student who lives in Endcliffe Crescent, said: &#8220;I&#8217;ve had two punctures already while I&#8217;ve been here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Its costing me money.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Wright cycles on his bike to get to the University of Sheffield, he said &#8220;Its a safety issue, some of them are really deep.&#8221; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"576\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/IMG_7751-576x1024.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-58913\" style=\"width:402px;height:auto\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Ron Jarman, a retired 78 year old who lives on St Albans drive, said: &#8220;Its a safety hazard.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr Jarman said the council could improve if &#8216;the people they contract to do it actually do a decent job in the first place&#8217;.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He said: &#8220;Its like sticking a non water-proof plaster on your finger then washing up and wondering why it came off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If they spent more money actually repairing the potholes before they got big, and doing it properly they wouldn&#8217;t have to keep coming back and doing them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;It&#8217;s not rocket science.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anne Jones, a retired 64 year old who lives on Taptonville Road, said: &#8220;There&#8217;s always been an issue with potholes in Sheffield, this council is useless, so I don&#8217;t have any expectations of them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;&#8220;I have done damage to my car.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Jones doesn&#8217;t believe the council does a sufficient job at fixing the issue of potholes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said: &#8220;It doesn&#8217;t make a difference because its just fill a hole and go away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;There&#8217;s no point doing anything with this council other than getting rid of them.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jonny ward, 49 year old Dry Stone Waller from the Peak District, said: &#8220;I hit one on my small bike last year, fell off the bike and a concrete wagon was coming right behind me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;They can be quite dangerous.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mr ward said: &#8220;I went cycle touring in Spain last year, I didn&#8217;t see one pothole.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield City Council have been contacted for a comment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>People in Sheffield have said they are fed up of potholes in roads which they said are damaging vehicles and posing a risk to traffic safety.
