Four university students have come together to host a fundraising event for St Luke\u2019s Hospice on 10 April. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The organisers of the event, Ruby Unwin-Marris, Shalomee Gumise, Rebekah Radford and Ben Storton, are final year students at university who have come together to form \u2018Fight4Events\u2019. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fight4Events\u2019s first event will be \u2018All in 4 St Luke\u2019s – A salute to Vegas\u2019, a Vegas themed Casino night with blackjack and roulette tables alongside live performances from an Elvis impersonator, a magician and a DJ. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the proceeds from the event will be donated to the hospice, a charity funded organisation that provides support to thousands of people across Sheffield each year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Storton said: \u201cA few members of our group have been in the unfortunate position of seeing family and loved ones suffer through palliative and end of life care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cSt Luke\u2019s services truly are the backbone of the community and provide such incredible care, which is why we are so invested in doing everything we possibly can to support them.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Hospice helped around 1,800 patients last year carrying out both in-patient and out patientwork from their base in Whirlow. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mr Storton said: \u201cThe care, compassion and dedication they show to patients and families going through some of life’s most difficult moments is truly remarkable.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With only 23% of running costs covered by government funding, the charity relies on over \u00a311 million in donations each year to ensure they can keep providing care. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Katie Fielding, St Lukes\u2019s Community and Events Manager, said: \u201cWe\u2019re extremely grateful to Fight4Events and everyone who supports St Luke\u2019s through fundraising as we simply wouldn\u2019t be here without them.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
