A Sheffield city centre charity shop has launched an urgent appeal for donations amongst a string of charity shop closures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Age UK on Norfolk Row, an outlet charity shop that sells items at reduced rates, has launched an appeal on Facebook for urgent donations so that it can keep its doors open.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

David Gardner, 32, a shop manager from Doncaster, said: \u201cWe are very, very desperate for stock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pleading with people to get some more donations coming in.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the branch being an outlet shop selling items priced under \u00a33, the product turnover is significant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, the shop needs an average two thousand items to be donated per week in order to remain afloat. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Gardner said: \u201cWe rely completely on the public for donations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe parking\u2019s not a brilliant situation which doesn\u2019t make it easy.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over the past week, \u2018closing down sale\u2019 signs have popped up in various charity shops around the city, including the Age UK in Broomhill, and the Cancer Research on Ecclesall Road.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Gardner said: \u201cI think there\u2019s a lot of reasons. Online, people are turning to places like Vinted, Facebook for selling things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt\u2019s a difficult time for everybody at the minute, people need the money.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cA lot of charities still haven\u2019t recovered from the pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe costs have all risen, a lot of people think we don\u2019t pay anything but we do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe pay the same as any business, we pay full rent, we pay wages for anybody running the shop, heating, electricity, that\u2019s all risen.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added: \u201cBut our prices don\u2019t rise to reflect that because it wouldn\u2019t be fair to the person buying the  items.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike some branches in the city where profits support projects in Sheffield, sales from Norfolk Row aid the charity on a national level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In recent months, Age UK campaigns have been successful in repealing the roll-back of the Winter Fuel Allowance as well as the motion to remove ticket offices in train stations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Gardner said: \u201cWe really do support a lot of people and Age UK is needed more than ever now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The shop takes all kinds of items, from clothes to media – but doesn\u2019t take furniture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
