{"id":59640,"date":"2026-03-18T11:44:40","date_gmt":"2026-03-18T11:44:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=59640"},"modified":"2026-03-18T11:45:02","modified_gmt":"2026-03-18T11:45:02","slug":"beer-central-sadness-as-moor-market-shop-announces-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/03\/18\/beer-central-sadness-as-moor-market-shop-announces-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"Beer Central: Sadness as Moor Market shop announces closure"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>An independent craft beer shop has announced its closure after over a decade of trading in the Moor Market.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beer Central has been providing Sheffield with beers from local breweries since its opening with the Moor Market in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While ownership changed hands last year from Sean Clarke to Megan Lindop and Ross Lindsay, the heart of Beer Central remained the same with the selling of Northern beers, European bottles, and wines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But they have now decided to stop trading, which they announced in a statement online, saying it took \u2018a lot of reflection and sleepless nights\u2019 to come to the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement said: \u201cWe have been truly honoured to be part of such an incredible beer community in Sheffield. Being trusted with a place that meant so much to so many has been a genuine privilege, and something we will always be proud of.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\"><p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">A message: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ykff4KlovL\">pic.twitter.com\/ykff4KlovL<\/a><\/p>&mdash; Beer Central (@BeerCentralLtd) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BeerCentralLtd\/status\/2031061309970604205?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 9, 2026<\/a><\/blockquote><script async src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/widgets.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>An outpouring of support for the shop has been shown on social media, including from other beer shops and brewers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Emmanuales, a Sheffield-based microbrewery, said: \u201cBeer Central was my second ever customer. So much of my own beer journey has been underpinned by Beer Central &#8211; bottle shares, saves, new friends made. I&#8217;m really gutted it has come to an end.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The closure of Beer Central is part of a growing trend of closures to independent businesses across the country, as costs such as increased business rates and people opting to shop online instead have made it difficult for small businesses to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms Lindop said: \u201cCovid has been a huge factor, once everyone realised that they could buy online, they didn\u2019t feel they needed to leave the house and go to physical stores anymore.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She also talked of the importance of local businesses and the community that places such as pubs as a \u2018third space\u2019 are crucial for building a community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tim Fleming said: \u201cYou need a mixture of businesses, you don\u2019t&nbsp;just want the national chains, because everybody can get that down at the mega hall!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beer Central will officially stop trading on Wednesday 18 March.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An independent craft beer shop has announced its closure after over a decade of trading in the Moor Market.
