A family-friendly walk in Weston Park\u00a0has been held\u00a0to raise money for a charity that helps to feed families in war-torn Gaza.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\u00a0Children\u2019s Walk\u00a0for Gaza\u00a0took place on the\u00a022\u00a0March,\u00a0raising around \u00a315,000. The event aimed\u00a0to raise awareness and vital funding for the women and children of Gaza.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the proceeds will go to Forgotten Women’s Kitchen Project, a charity run by women for women that provides clean water, formula, hygiene kits and up to 1,000 hot meals in Gaza every single day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sham Hussain, an attendee of the event, said: \u201cThe Palestinian cause has been close to many people\u2019s hearts, we are Muslim so not only is it important to support this cause, but we feel we are obliged to.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With Amnesty International, a global rights group, having stated that Palestinian women in the Gaza Strip have been \u201cdenied the conditions needed to live and to give life safely\u201d by Israel, it is clear that aid for Gazan women and children is vital. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Hussain said: \u201cWhenever there are atrocities in the world, whenever there’s an environment of oppressive regimes, women and children are the most likely to suffer.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Hussain and her daughter Serina Hussain are both members of the Palestinian solidarity group in Sheffield, having attended three of the national marches since September. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Serina said: \u201cNot many kids are actually educated about what’s going on in the world. It’s very important to look outside the UK.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was organised by Salman Malik, an activist and stand-up comedian who has run events across the country for Forgotten Women. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With the event raising up to \u00a315,000, Mr Malik said: \u201cA lot of these people were fundraising during the month of Ramadanwhich is also a month of charity and reflection for us. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
