{"id":60109,"date":"2026-04-20T15:31:03","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:31:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/?p=60109"},"modified":"2026-04-20T15:31:04","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T15:31:04","slug":"day-drinking-and-art-a-homage-to-south-yorkshire-breweries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/index.php\/2026\/04\/20\/day-drinking-and-art-a-homage-to-south-yorkshire-breweries\/","title":{"rendered":"Day drinking and art: a homage to South Yorkshire breweries"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The week-long celebration of Sheffield city\u2019s breweries has returned &#8211; a vast array of events championing the local beer scene.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From 9 to 16 March the city of Sheffield has its breweries and pubs hosting dozens of events in honour of the ever-growing South Yorkshire beer market.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These events range from festivals and brewery tours to art exhibitions &#8211; Kelham Island pub The Harlequin hosting a display of the development of beer labels within Sheffield breweries.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A student visiting the Harlequin &#8211; Tobias Gurney-Savage, 20, said: \u201cI really enjoyed exploring the beer culture of Sheffield and how it has progressed over time,both the creation and the way they promote it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Art of Beer\u201d exhibition was curated by Richard Hough, a prominent figure known for his work as head brewer at brewSocial.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Running for the entire week, entry to the exhibition was free with visitors purchasing a pint from the pub downstairs before making their way upstairs to the artwork featured in the events space.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"655\" src=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5380-1024x655.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-60111\" srcset=\"https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5380-980x626.jpg 980w, https:\/\/shef-live.co.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/IMG_5380-480x307.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>South Yorkshire breweries\u2019 (Abbeydale,ACorn,Neepsend and BlueBee) beer label artwork stemming from 2002 was plastered over the walls of the Harlequin pub\u2019s event room &#8211; a colourful display of how beer marketing has adapted over 20 years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI loved the Abbeydale artwork, pale ale being advertised by a black chess piece and black beer advertised by white piece.\u201d said 19-year-old Connie Warrington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sheffield Beer week was first introduced by Jules Gray and Clare Tollick; the friends were inspired by the popularity of the SIBA conference and Beer X festival. This inspiration kicked off the first Sheffield Beer week in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following on from the Art Exhibition, 2026 Beer week promoted nine collaboration brews such as: Abbeydale Synth City(pale ale,4.8%),Bradfield Brewery Nag Nag Nag (cold brew coffee porter,3.8%) and Loxley x Shakespeares Bitter Ol\u2019 Bill (best bitter,4.5%).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The celebrations came to a close on Monday 16 March, a commemoration of the South Yorkshire breweries wrapped up for another year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The event is set to return once again early March 2027.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The week-long celebration of Sheffield city\u2019s breweries has returned &#8211; a vast array of events championing the local beer scene.
